PDLC smart glass, otherwise known as Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal glass, is a new kind of smart glass technology. It is able to alternate between transparent and opaque by including a liquid crystal polymer film inside the sandwich of two glasses. The PDLC film becomes transparent when electric current passes through it because the liquid crystal molecules align under the influence of electric field allowing light to pass through. When the power is switched off, the liquid crystal molecules are randomly oriented and hence make not possible for light to pass through thus making the glass an opaque one. This technique has been adopted in construction industry as well as vehicles, aircrafts, medicine among others. It has attracted much attention for its privacy protection property, energy saving capability and visual comfortability that has made it popularly utilized in many fields. In addition, touch screen technology can be integrated into PDLC smart glass to achieve interactive display effects.
